Erm...
How to begin this?
Well, I am reading a lot of blogs and depending on seriousness and topic they seem to have a lot of styles and it seems there is not really a fixed set of rules wich need to be followed. Some are completely written in character, some are just streams of consciousness, some are serious business and many more styles of writing are out there.
I personally do not want to be caught in a special self imposed set of rules or a special style, so I think I am going to use a little bit of all of them, depending on my mood, the topic or whatever comes to my mind.
So …
Hello World…
This is going to be the story about a dweller of virtual worlds. Worlds of fantasy and science fiction and about general interests. Probably it will be spiced up with some Real Life stuff as well.
Mainly I will write about the MMOs I play, which happen to be at the moment on one hand the Heavy Weight Champion (At least in subscription numbers) on the market World of Warcraft and on the other hand the not so well known but still very good EVE Online. They are indeed very different from each other. Heck of course they are different, I wouldn´t pay for two games wich are essentially clones.
World of Warcraft is a MMORPG in a middle age fantasy setting where I chose to play an Orc Warrior. I play this now for a couple of years in an on and off manner and did “quit” it two times already due to gaming fatigue. But two times I was lured back by the sirens call of a new expansion with new stuff in like every aspect of the game. I also think that this game is a very well done package which provides a very good experience and leads the new player competent through every aspect till he can stand on his/her own feet and. I never had the feeling of being left alone or unguided. I do reside on a German PVP Server on the Horde side (after being forced to live a long life on the Allliance side) and am focusing mainly on PVP. I am speaking of Battlegrounds and Arenas as well as open world PVP here. I do not raid dungeons anymore as I am completely fed up with those (more about this maybe some other time).
EVE Online on the contrary is a game about internet spaceships (serious business) and is a harsh place. The avatar is always represented by the spaceship you choose to fly out of the spacedock into the cold vastness of space. This is a very unforgiving place and whenever you die the spaceship is gone for good, no matter how great its worth. You fall for a market scam? Bad luck. Somebody is able to talk you out of all your possessions with his social engineering skills and additionally robs the guild? Well better suck it up and start new all over, nobody is going to help you. PVP is everywhere and the player has to be on his toes all the time. This environment provides an exceptional setting to explore your own dark sides and have a very unique gaming experience. Only thing is that you need to grow a thick fur and need to learn not take it too serious as it still is a game.
Two worlds, two stories to be told. Two characters which are well established, well geared and ready for combat.
